Review: Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi Resort

A spacious suite, a pineapple-themed afternoon tea and an off-menu lobster pasta made our stay at Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi more interesting than we expected. Here is what stood out during our four-day stay.

Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi Resort is located around 15 minutes from Langkawi International Airport, depending on traffic. The resort offers airport transfers if you request one when making your booking, although getting a taxi or ride-hailing car is also straightforward.

This is one of Hilton’s newest resorts in Malaysia. It officially opened in 2026 and covers almost 22 acres on the shores of Burau Bay, between the Andaman Sea and Langkawi’s tropical rainforest. The resort has 251 rooms and suites, with every room offering a private terrace or balcony. It is designed as a wellness-focused resort, but there is enough here for families as well as couples.

We stayed for three nights and spent most of our time exploring the property rather than going into town. The resort is spread out, with plenty of quiet corners, gardens and paths to walk through. It feels more like a self-contained resort than a conventional airport hotel or city Hilton.

Check-in

We joined the Hilton Honors line at check-in as Hilton Diamond members. There was no real queue at either counter when we arrived, so the process was quick and seamless.

The staff explained our Diamond benefits and gave us a short introduction to the property. They also pointed out the main facilities, including the restaurants, pools, executive lounge and Nature Centre. The resort is divided into several areas, so this introduction was useful on our first day.

The design is modern but not overly flashy. The main buildings use warm timber, stone textures and neutral colours, which work well with the rainforest surroundings. From the lobby and the paths around the property, it is easy to see that the resort was designed around its natural setting rather than placed on a cleared piece of land.

Room

We stayed in a Deluxe Suite with Balcony. The suite was very spacious, with separate living and bedroom areas, an attached bathroom and two balconies. One balcony was connected to the living room and the other to the bedroom.

The living area is also separated into two, one for the TV and one for dining. We were surprised to see that there’s even a basin in the living room in case you need to wash your hands or prepare any food.

Shortly after checking in, we received a call from room service, and the staff delivered some welcome snacks for us.

The minibar was very well stocked with water as well as coffee. The staff told us that the popcorn inside the cabinet was also complimentary, so it was great when we had cravings at night.

These amenities were replenished every day during cleaning.

Having two separate outdoor spaces made the suite feel much larger than a normal hotel room. We could use the living room balcony during the day and still have a private balcony connected to the bedroom.

The resort’s room categories range from Terrace and Deluxe Rooms to Executive Suites. All rooms and suites have either a terrace or balcony overlooking the rainforest, mountains or sea. The resort also has 16 connecting rooms, which should be useful for families travelling with older children or several generations.

The room was comfortable and felt new throughout our stay. The layout was also practical for a longer stay because we could leave our luggage and belongings in the walk-in wardrobe without making the bedroom feel cluttered.

Bathroom

The main bathroom is attached to the sleeping area through a walk-in wardrobe. There is a freestanding bathtub as well as two basins. The shower area and the toilet are also separated.

As a Hilton property, most of the bathroom amenities, such as the soap and shampoo, are provided by Crabtree & Evelyn.

Interestingly, at this Hilton Langkawi, the shower amenities are provided in unique custom bottles. Therefore, I could not really verify whether they were also from Crabtree & Evelyn, but they definitely smelled very good and luxurious.

There is also a Dyson hair dryer provided in the room, so your hair will dry quickly after a long shower.

Executive Lounge

The executive lounge is located on the sixth floor of the main building. As Hilton Honors Diamond members, we had access to the lounge during our stay.

The lounge has a panoramic view over the resort and the surrounding mountains. It is one of the best places on the property to get a sense of how large the resort is. The view is particularly nice in the morning, when the light reaches across the pools and rainforest.

Guests with lounge access can have breakfast here, although the selection is noticeably smaller than what is available at Gingerfire. We preferred having breakfast at Gingerfire, but the lounge is a quieter alternative if you want a slower start to the day.

Afternoon tea is served from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. This is a preselected set of snacks and drinks rather than a large buffet. Evening happy hour runs from 5:00pm to 6:30pm and has a more substantial buffet-style selection.

After talking to the head chef, we learnt that the food theme in the executive lounge rotates every day during afternoon tea. On the Tuesday that we visited, it was pineapple themed, so everything was made using pineapple as one of the ingredients.

The lounge was a useful place to stop for a drink or a light snack between activities. It also gives Diamond members another space away from the main restaurant and pool areas.

Breakfast at Gingerfire

Breakfast is served at Gingerfire, the resort’s all-day dining restaurant. The restaurant serves a mix of international dishes and local Malaysian options, and there was plenty of seating even when we visited during a peak period.

The breakfast selection was good. There was an egg station, a fresh roti canai section and a range of hot food, pastries, fruit and local dishes. The roti canai was cooked to order, which made it much better than the versions that had been sitting on a buffet.

One of my favourite parts was the honey station. You could choose between different types of honey and serve them with the other breakfast items. There was also a yogurt section and a fresh salad section for anyone looking for lighter options.

The restaurant itself is spacious and open, with enough different seating areas that it did not feel cramped. If you have executive lounge access, the lounge is quieter, but Gingerfire has a much wider spread and is the better option if breakfast is important to you.

Hilton Burau Bay has four dining concepts in total. Gingerfire serves all-day dining, while Haliya Lounge is in the lobby. MINGZHU focuses on the flavours of Yunnan, and Trattoria Mare offers Italian food in a seaside setting. During our stay, we mainly used Gingerfire and the executive lounge.

Haliya Lounge

On the first afternoon of our stay, we had lunch at the Haliya Lounge. It has more of a cafe vibe, where you can get brunch and coffee.

We got a bowl of soba noodles, some sandwiches and a hake croquette to share. All of them were really delicious, and some of the best cafe food we have ever tasted.

They also had single-origin coffee, which was served in this very fancy apparatus.

Ming Zhu

On the first night, we had dinner at Ming Zhu. I was really looking forward to this as I was craving Chinese food during our stay.

Ming Zhu did not disappoint at all. The food was really authentic and tasted like something straight out of China.

The Guo Qiao Mi Xian and the fried chicken were the highlights for me. The broth was very milky and flavourful, and the noodles were cooked to the right firmness.

Trattoria Mare

We had three meals at Trattoria Mare in total, two lunches and one private dinner. They mainly serve Italian cuisine, as well as drinks in their outdoor bar area.

We tried most of what they offer, including seafood, pasta and pizza.

On the second night, we even had a private romantic dinner by the beach. Due to the weather, we could not confirm that the dinner was happening until the evening itself. As soon as the weather was clear, the staff very promptly set it up and welcomed us warmly when the dinner started.

For our private dinner, we got a salad starter as well as steak and an off-menu lobster pasta, which was absolutely delicious. The lobster was well seasoned and the pasta sauce was flavourful.

Gingerfire

In addition to being the place where the breakfast buffet is served, Gingerfire also has a daily dinner buffet. The selection of food is rotated daily. During our visit, they were having an Asian cuisine rotation.

The selections were good, but I do not think they were as good or as extensive as the breakfast selection.

The curry fish was really delicious though. I had two bowls of it during our dinner there and had to stop myself from getting a third bowl.

Fitness Centre

The fitness centre is open 24 hours a day. We visited at around 8:30am and found it quite crowded, although the gym itself is spacious enough that it did not feel uncomfortable.

The equipment is fairly basic. There is enough for a proper workout, including the usual cardio and strength-training equipment, but it is not a destination gym with an extensive collection of machines or free weights.

The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. The fitness centre also fits the general approach of the resort: it gives you everything you need to stay active, but the focus is more on wellness and the surrounding environment than on serious training.

eforea Spa and wellness facilities

The resort has dedicated a large part of the property to its spa and wellness facilities. In addition to the treatment rooms, there is a rock pool area and a sauna area built into the landscaping. The official facilities also include outdoor sauna barrels, a salt room and an Elixir Lounge where guests can have tea after their treatments.

I had the Deep with Rhythm 60-minute treatment, while Marilyn had the prenatal aromatherapy treatment. The therapists were well-trained and professional, and we both had an enjoyable experience.

The staff took care with the details throughout the treatments, from the temperature of the room to the oil essence used. This was particularly important for Marilyn’s prenatal treatment, where comfort and the treatment setup mattered more than simply getting through the massage quickly.

The spa is one of the stronger parts of the resort. It feels like a proper wellness complex rather than a small treatment room attached to the hotel, and there is enough space to spend time there before or after a treatment.

Swimming pools and beach

There are three swimming pools at the resort: an adults-only pool, a family pool and a kids’ pool. The adults-only pool is set slightly farther away from the main areas. It is also one of the most picturesque parts of the property, so it can become quite crowded with guests taking photographs.

The main family pool is large and faces the beach directly. It is a good option if you are travelling with children and want to stay close to the main resort facilities.

The resort also has direct access to its private beach. Staff were present throughout the day, and getting from the family pool to the beach was convenient. Hilton describes the beach as extending for around 650 metres, so there is a decent stretch of shoreline even though the resort itself does not feel crowded everywhere.

The five meditative rock pools around the wellness areas are another quieter feature of the property. They are not the same as the main swimming pools, but they add to the number of places where you can sit and relax away from the busier pool areas.

Nature Centre

The Nature Centre is where guests can reserve activities around the resort. This includes guided walks, day trips, nature-related activities and recreational facilities such as tennis courts.

We joined a batik-making workshop at the Nature Centre. It was a simple activity, but it was a nice change from spending time at the pool or spa. There are also a few games outside the centre, including table tennis and air hockey.

The resort also offers guided rainforest walks and nature experiences. The property is located beside the rainforest, so the Nature Centre is a useful way to experience that setting without needing to arrange a separate excursion around Langkawi.

Kids’ Club

The Kids’ Club is open every day from 9:00am to 6:00pm. It has an indoor play area and an outdoor playground. Both areas were clean, new and well air-conditioned, which is useful given Langkawi’s heat and humidity.

Children between four and twelve years old can visit the Kids’ Club on their own. Babysitting is also available for children from six months to twelve years old at RM150 per hour, increasing to RM200 per hour after 6:00pm. Some activities are chargeable, so it is worth checking the schedule and prices before signing up.

The Kids’ Club gives families another practical reason to stay on the property. It is not just a small room with a few toys, and the outdoor area gives children somewhere to play when they have had enough of the swimming pool.

Now that we are expecting a kid ourselves, we are particularly looking at properties with great kid-friendly facilities. From our first visit to this property, it already checks a lot of the boxes that we are looking for.

Overall experience

Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi is a large, new resort with a clear focus on wellness and nature. The private beach, multiple pools, spa facilities and Nature Centre give you plenty to do without leaving the property. We spent a total of four days at this property and still felt like it was not enough.

The suite was spacious, the breakfast at Gingerfire was good and the executive lounge had an excellent view. The spa was also a highlight, especially because the treatments were handled carefully and professionally.

The gym is functional rather than impressive, and the adults-only pool can get busy because it is one of the most photogenic areas.

Would we stay here again? Yes. Hilton Burau Bay works particularly well for a short resort stay where you want a spacious room, a good spa, direct beach access and enough activities to keep you on the property. It is also an excellent choice for families, given the kids’ pool, Kids’ Club and range of outdoor activities.

For couples, the adults-only pool and large spa complex make the resort easy to enjoy at a slower pace. For families, the resort has enough facilities to avoid the usual problem of running out of things to do after the first day.
