Review: The Singapore EDITION Garden Suite

Amidst all the fanfare it has gotten from its insta-worthy lobby, The Singapore EDITION offers a luxurious escape in heart of the busy shopping district.

A great modern staycation option if you’ve already been to the older hotels in the area.

The EDITION brand is one of our favourite hotel brands. Our first encounter with the brand was with Bodrum EDITION during our trip to Turkey. The Bodrum EDITION was once one of the best Marriott hotels for points redemption.

We redeemed our hard-earned Bonvoy points for a room there before a massive devaluation that made subsequent stays impossible. Following our unforgettable stay in Bodrum, we continued to watch for EDITION hotels wherever we travelled.

It was early 2023 when we first caught wind of the news that a new EDITION hotel would be opening in Singapore. We were very excited and closely watched any updates ever since.

Lucky for us, we booked a room at The Singapore EDITION to celebrate M’s birthday in June 2024. On top of it, we successfully used our Nightly Upgrade Award (NUA) to upgrade our room to a Garden Suite throughout our stay.

This is a full review of our experience staying at The Singapore EDITION Garden Suite.

Booking

Right when The Singapore EDITION opened for reservations, we immediately snagged a room for 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, depleting our Bonvoy account and most of what we’ve earned throughout the year.

Given the sky-high cash prices for rooms, this is a steal in our opinion. Moreover, EDITION is one of our favourite hotel brands and this is a really low redemption rate for their hotels which can typically go up to 100,000 points per night.

Following Bonvoy’s changes to Suite Night Awards (renamed to Nightly Upgrade Awards) earlier this year, we could apply the NUA on our EDITION stay. This upgraded us from the Standard King Room to the Garden Suite.

Imagine our joy when we received the email from Marriott Bonvoy 3 days before our stay!

Our Marriott Bonvoy's nightly upgrade award got confirmed.

Location

The Singapore EDITION is located at Cuscaden Road, off the main street of the busy Orchard Road. It’s a short 5-minute walk to Forum Shopping Centre and a 15-minute walk to Ion Orchard.

The hotel is clustered together with other 5-star hotels such as the recently rebranded Conrad Orchard and St Regis Singapore. As it is physically close to Forum Shopping Mall, it’s still walkable to the busy stretch of Orchard Road, yet sheltered from the hustle and bustle.

Check-in at The Singapore EDITION

As we stepped into the driveway, the iconic smell of its Le Labo fragrance immediately hit our noses. The scent of familiarity reminded us of our past stays at other EDITION hotels around the world.

Checking into The Singapore EDITION was smooth and easy. The staff efficiently processed our paperwork and we wasted no time at all getting our key cards. While doing so, another staff gave us a cup of fresh welcome drink and cold towels each.

Garden Suite

The Garden Suite is one of the 6 suite configurations at The Singapore EDITION. It is located on the top floor of level 8, right below the swimming pool. The suite measures 76 sqm (847 sqft) and comes with a separate living area, bedroom and walk-in wardrobe.

Living Area

As we enter the suite, we are greeted by the living area and its floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook a residential project.

The living area sports a lounging area with 3 sofa chairs and is towered over by a massive 75″ TV. Most of the furnishing here is dominated by light-coloured wood and felt cloth.

Even though there’s seemingly a balcony attached to the suite, we could not find a way to open the windows. We think it might be permanently locked and the balcony could be a decoration piece. This was neither verified nor questioned.

The bar counter is tucked in a corner by the living area. There, we find the usual Nespresso machine, tea set, bottles of alcohol and packed mineral bottles.

Going through the drawers, we see some local branded snacks and chocolates. Those are chargeable and their price is in line with what you’ll expect.

Welcome Amenities

The stay was a celebration for M’s birthday and I mentioned this in the chat on Marriott Bonvoy’s mobile app a couple of days before our stay. We were glad that the staff at EDITION recognised the occasion and gave us some treats for our stay!

There was even a handwritten note by the guest relations manager which we always appreciate. It’s a small gesture but goes a long way towards recognising hotel loyalty!

Bedroom

Behind the faux walls where the TV hung lies the main bedroom of the suite. Similar to the living area, the king-sized bed directly faces the residential units.

A long wooden work table (similar to the one we had in Bodrum EDITION) faces the balcony. If you need to get any work done during your stay, we found that the work area is very comfortable and conducive.

There is a lone sofa chair placed in the corner which was a little weird and awkward for us. We could not think of a logical scenario where anyone would want to sit there and face the bed.

There’s a plethora of charging ports available, so you can conveniently set up your charging station here. It would have been a little more future-proof if they were to install USB-C ports instead of USB-A ports here, but hey, it’s always digitally safer to use charging adapters instead.

In the evening after turn-down, the bedroom exudes a calm and tranquil mood with its warm lighting. We loved the soft reflections of the warm light against the wooden furniture.

If you ever need more charging points, there are 2 conveniently located beside the bed.

As you go behind bed, you’ll step into the walk-in wardrobe which is too big for anyone doing a 1-day staycation like us. We did not want to fully unpack our belongings here as it would be a massive endeavour when we were leaving. On the contrary, this would be a godsend if you’re staying here for a week instead.

You’ll find EDITION’s silky smooth bathrobes hung in the wardrobe. If you like them from your stay, they can be purchased from the hotel directly. Makes for a nice memento.

Bathroom

The main bathroom in the Garden Suite is directly connected to the bedroom. As you walk into the bathroom, you’ll immediately notice the large free-standing bathtub and 2 washing basins on the opposite end.

The toilet seat is equipped with the most advanced Toto equipment which automatically opens its lids when it senses motion. You’ll also find the latest bum-cleaning technology, as what you’d expect from the Japanese company.

Moving to the other end of the bathroom, you’ll find the shower area. There’s a ceiling-mounted rain shower and a hand-held shower option.

Unfortunately, this was a missed opportunity as the water pressure from the rain shower was too weak for our liking. Due to its longer distance from the ground, a rain shower must have a stronger pressure and wider spray circumference to ensure a comfortable experience. We ended up using the hand-held shower instead.

Le Labo provides their special EDITION fragrances for bathroom amenities. This is our all-time favourite scent and we still vividly remember the smell months after our stay.

Now that there is an EDITION in Singapore, we can finally purchase these bath amenities for our own house. It’s that good.

Moving back to the hand basins, we’ll find a separated his and hers section. Although overkill and unnecessary, having 2 basins always reminds us of the opulence that we’re experiencing with these stays.

Similar to the shower amenities, the hand moisturiser is also provided by Le Labo with its own EDITION fragrance.

Amenities

Gym

There is a full-sized gym in The Singapore EDITION. It is equipped with the latest and greatest from TechnoGym.

This is one of the most well-equipped gyms among many of the hotels that we’ve stayed in. As I visited early in the morning (recovering from jetlag), there was no one in the gym throughout my workout.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool area is located on the 9th floor of the hotel, just above the Garden Suite that we were staying in. Lining both short ends of the pool lies plenty of EDITION-themed sun beds.

Even though we visited on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn’t as crowded as we’d expected. There were plenty of sun beds available and there wasn’t anyone swimming in the pool.

The pool forms a bridge that connects the EDITION hotel with its sister residential project. Therefore, the further end of the pool directly faces the residential units, similar to the ones that face our suites.

The hotel provides complimentary sun protection to protect guests against Singapore’s hot scorching sun.

Spa

You’ll find The Spa at The Singapore EDITION at level 2 of the hotel. Over here, you can engage in various spa services like massages and facials.

In addition, there’s also a plunge pool, sauna and steam room that’s available for all guests at no additional cost. These are gender separated, so you’ll have to part ways with your partners if you want to enjoy these facilities.

We highly recommend visiting if you can as there’s even a vortex rain shower experience where you can try out the different ways of splashing water on yourself.

Breakfast

EDITION hotels are known for not offering any breakfast benefits to Marriott elite members. Therefore, despite being a Titanium Elite member during our stay, we had to pay extra if we wanted breakfast.

Breakfast in Singapore EDITION is conducted at its FYSH restaurant, located on the ground floor beside the entrance.

The menu is simple, with a choice of either an ala carte menu or the breakfast table. There’s also a signature breakfast combo where you get 2 ala carte dishes together with the breakfast table.

For the 2 of us, since we are small eaters, we got 1 set of Signature Breakfast and 1 Breakfast Table. This is what we recommend a couple to get as the ala carte dishes are huge.

For The Breakfast Table, you’ll get a selection of fruits, charcuterie, pastries and smoked salmon. We don’t think this is sufficient for a complete breakfast and highly recommend topping S$19 for the 2 extra main dishes.

For the main dishes, we got a bowl of Sichuan Noodles and French Omelette. Even though it wasn’t mentioned on the menu, our breakfast table order came with a beverage each.

The quality of the main dishes was excellent and far exceeded our expectations. The selections of The Breakfast Table, on the other hand, were mediocre and typical of a hotel buffet spread.

Final Thoughts

The Singapore EDITION is one of the most beautiful and tranquil city hotels that we’ve stayed in. Due to its nascent age, it also radiates a “new hotel” energy and spirit that we love.

The staff is energetic and eager to please. Every corner of the property is spotlessly clean and screams insta-worthiness. If you love to take photos or have your photos taken, you can spend hours just being in the lobby.

The Garden Suite that we stayed in was spectacular and luxurious. Every piece of furniture was thoughtfully designed and placed exactly where it had to be.

And the scent, o the scent, is what draws us to EDITION hotels every single time. There are countless studies which show that scent creates powerful memories and the collaboration between EDITION and Le Labo excelled at this.

Our biggest letdown with our suite and the property as a whole was its view or lack thereof. Because of its prime location in one of the densest areas of the city, it is difficult for it to physically construct any area with a great view.

This is very apparent in our room which directly faces the living room of the residential property opposite. If privacy is a consideration for you, then you might need to have your blinds drawn throughout the entire duration of your stay.

In any case, we know we will be back at an EDITION. Perhaps it might be The Singapore EDITION due to its proximity. Or perhaps it might be the 33 other EDITIONS around the world.
