Review: Quality Inn Lake George Hotel

We were in upstate New York for an early November weekend getaway. There are many great outdoor hiking spots within the great Adirondacks wilderness.

For our 3 day trip, we decided to visit Lake George town and Lake Placid town as they were near the trail we wanted to hike. We chose to stay at the amazing Lake House at High Peaks when we were at Lake Placid. For our stay at Lake George, we decided on the Quality Inn Lake George Hotel after a brief search through multiple online booking portals.

Lake George is located in the southeast base of the Adirondack mountains. Situated at the halfway point between New York City and Montreal, it is a popular tourist destination during summer. We totally understand its draw after visiting the lake ourselves.

We stayed in the Quality Inn Lake George for 1 night and made our booking through Agoda. As we were travelling in a group of 3, we booked the 2 Queen Beds Room which cost us US$149 for the night.

Room

Our bedroom in the Quality Inn Lake George.

The room was very spacious and had ample personal space for our group of 3.

Frontage of our room.

The beds face a 32″ LCD TV and dressing table. We wished for the TV to be bigger and more modern. It only had cable channels and did not have any casting functions. We forgot to bring our own HDMI cable and had to settle for the channels that came with it.

A standard for US hotels, our room came with a Keurig coffee machine and 4 coffee pods.

There was no minibar service in the hotel. You had to bring your own beverages if you want to and the fridge is there for you to chill it.

There was a table with armchairs near the windows of the room. It was placed in a very weird position. On one hand, you get a great view of the mountains in front of the hotel. On the other hand, you have the air conditioning unit blowing directly at you.

I was able to do a bit of work here by turning off the AC unit.

Bathroom

The sink is located outside the bathroom. I generally prefer this layout as someone else could use the sink even if the bathroom is occupied.

Our room came with a bottle of conditioner, shampoo and lotion. Body soap comes in the form of a bar. Quality Inn appears to be providing its own house brand to guests.

Luckily there were clean towels supplied as I forgot to bring my towels for the trip.

There are more than enough charging ports in the room. Unfortunately, there weren’t any USB ports to be found. Remember to bring your own charging adapters for your phones and devices.

Lobby / Common Area

My favourite feature of the hotel was its position. All rooms faced the centre pool which was unfortunately closed for the season during our trip.

We could see the beautiful mountains immediately after stepping out of our room.

There were chairs right in front of every room. This would have been useful if we came on a warmer day for us to enjoy the beautiful mountains.

Swimming pool area.

There were firepits which we could only wish was open during our trip.

Breakfast at Quality Inn Lake George

Quality Inn Lake George provides free Continental Breakfast to all its guests regardless of the type of rooms booked. It’s served from 7 am to 10 am every day.

We appreciate that breakfasts are slowly coming back to hotels in the US despite some hotels being slow to the breakfast game.

The breakfast is nothing to write home about. It’s about as standard as every other US hotel breakfast. Imagine waffles, sausages, toast bread and coffee.

The sausage was really good though. I think it’s comparable to the sausage that came in Mcdonald’s Big Breakfast meals. It was so good that I had to have 2 servings of it.

Wifi at Quality Inn Lake George

This is 1 area where we have to knock off points from the hotel. The wifi at Quality Inn Lake George was slow and almost unusable.

There were multiple occasions where I couldn’t connect to the internet at all.

Location

The Quality Inn Lake George is located right along Highway 9 and a 3-minutes drive away from the lake. This is incredibly accessible if you’re driving.

However, the lake is not very accessible from the hotel on foot.

Conclusion

We think that Quality Inn Lake George is a standard hotel that you can count on for your trip to Lake George. Nothing has gone wrong throughout our stay and that’s what it strives to be.

As a small tourist town, there aren’t many good accommodation options to choose from. There were a few chain hotels available in Lake George but there wasn’t one with a better price to reviews ratio than the Quality Inn.

Our only wish was for us to visit during summer when everything is open. However, it’s also likely that prices would be much higher and it will be a lot harder for us to get a good value for our booking.
