Review: The Private Room at Changi Airport Terminal 3

The Private Room is the most exclusive lounge offered by Singapore Airlines. We spent 6 hours in there after our flight and wished we had stayed longer.

As a passenger on Singapore Airlines’ First Class or Suites cabin, you’ll be able to enter the exclusive Private Room lounge. This applies to both departure and arrival flights to Changi Airport!

We recently had the opportunity to experience Singapore Airlines’ First Class service from Beijing to Singapore. As it was our first time taking a first class on Singapore Airlines, we knew we had to try out the carrier’s best lounge in the airport.

This is our full review of The Private Lounge in Changi Airport’s Terminal 3.

General Information

The Private Room is part of Singapore Airlines’s SilverKris Lounge in Changi Airport Terminal 3. It shares the same entrance as the SilverKris Lounge that business class passengers typically use. At the entrance, there’s a dedicated walkway that leads you to The Private Room.

The Private Room in Changi Airport opens from 05:30 am to 02:30 am every day.

How do I access The Private Room?

Access to The Private Room is reserved exclusively for passengers flying on Singapore Airlines in First Class or Suites cabins.

You can access The Private Room either on the departure or arrival of your flight.

If you’re flying first class on Star Alliance airlines, you’ll be diverted to the adjacent SilverKris First-Class Lounge instead of The Private Room.

Environment

Upon entering The Private Room, there’s a long corridor that separates the main lounge area from the entrance. This creates a sense of distinct separation between the resting area and the more hectic entrance area.

Within the lounge, there are 2 distinct areas. The front portion consists of lower sofa chairs, while the further end has standard dining chairs and tables.

There are private nooks with single lounge sofas, perfect for solo business travellers looking to catch up on some work before their flight. There are also private nooks with multiple seats, catering to all sorts of travellers.

The Private Room overlooks the airport’s transit area. Even though the transit area is bustling, you will barely hear anything in the lounge. The sound isolation is so good that you won’t even notice that you’re right above the transit area.

At the furthest end of the lounge, there’s a collection of all the lounge’s beverage offerings.

Because of its strict entry requirements, we barely saw other guests in the lounge. There were plenty of seats available and you don’t have to worry about “choping” seats with your belongings.

This results in a much quieter and relaxing environment compared to the nearby SilverKris Lounge.

Food and Drinks

Dining is our highlight in The Private Room. It is an à la carte style dining where you can order anything you want from the menu.

As we stayed in the lounge for a couple of hours, we could try both the lunch and dinner menu.

The menu for both lunch and dinner has a lot of overlap, with the biggest difference being the main dishes. You could order as many dishes as you want from the menu, and there is no limit to how much you order.

For lunch, I got the Western soup for starters and the Kurobuta Pork Don with Onsen Egg for mains.

For dinner, I got the Double Boiled Figs and Lily with Chicken Soup, and it was really delicious! The soup was flavourful and the chicken was tender.

As for the mains, I went with the Ee Fu noodles. It tasted very similar to the Ee Fu noodles you’ll find in some Book the Cook menus. It wasn’t bad by any means, but you can’t compare it to those you’ll find in top Chinese restaurants. In any case, I ordered seconds because I really liked Ee Fu noodles.

Sleeping Rooms

The main highlight of The Private Room is its 4 private sleeping rooms.

Guests can request access to the sleeping rooms from the concierge at check-in. The standard rule is that each access to the rooms only lasts for 2 hours. However, you can stay longer than that depending on availability.

In addition, we’ve seen anecdotal data points where people have stayed overnight in the rooms (even after closing hours) when there are no passengers. It’s not in the official policy, and we have not tried this for ourselves, so it’s better not to make any concrete plans based on this.

Access card to the sleeping rooms.

Within the tiny sleeping room, you’ll find a small working desk and a single-sized Tempur bed. The bed features Tempur’s NASA-grade mattress that distinctly moulds to the sleeper’s body frame. In addition, the bed frame is mechanically adjustable, so you can sit up if you want to.

The sleeping room also offers an amazing sound isolation setup to make sure guests get the rest they need.

Unless you need silence when working, I preferred working in the common area, as this was too sterile. The sound isolation was so good that I needed to play music through my headphones when I was working in the room.

Toilet

The toilet is pretty standard and similar to what you’ll find in the SilverKris Lounge. The biggest difference here is still the significant lack of foot traffic and usage by guests. Therefore, the upkeep of the toilet is much better and you’ll seldom find droplets of water anywhere in the toilet.

In addition, I notice that the toilet is always refreshed every time I visit it. What I meant by that is that the paper towels and toilet paper are always folded to represent that the area was cleaned.

Shower Rooms

The Shower Rooms in The Private Room are very spacious and come with their own toilet.

The best parts about the rooms are that you don’t have to make reservations for them. Despite visiting the SilverKris Lounge multiple times, we have yet to take a shower there due to the long wait for the shower rooms.

In line with other First Class amenities, the shower room amenities are mostly provided by LaLique. There are also toothbrushes and shaving sets if you need them.

Shower towels are made available in each shower room. You do not need to get them from the staff at the counter. Once you’re done with your shower, you can just leave them in the shower room.

Summary

Singapore Airlines’ The Private Room is one of the best airport lounges in Changi Airport, and one of the best that we’ve visited worldwide.

It offers a quiet sanctuary in an otherwise busy airport. It might not offer the most opulent and luxurious decoration, nor the most amount of amenities. However, it excels at making you feel the most exclusive and comfortable just before your flight.

The service provided by the staff is also spectacular, tending to our every need at the highest quality.

If not for the difficulty of access to this lounge, we will want to visit it every time we fly out of the city.
