What Credit Card to Use for Taylor Swift Concert in Singapore

Taylor Swift has just announced her upcoming The Eras Tour concert dates and 3 of them will be held in Singapore! With this announcement and given her popularity, many people have started looking into the different ways they can get their hands on the tickets.

Concert tickets might be significant spending, especially if you’re going for the premium seats to get up close with Tay Tay. If you’re going to spend so much money, you might as well earn some airline miles to help you fly to her next concert destination.

Information to know

The concert will happen over 3 days on March 2, 3 and 4 2024. Singapore will be the only Southeast Asia country that she’s visiting on her tour.

The concert ticket sales and payment will be handled online by TicketMaster.

ActionTime Period
Fan registration for general on-saleJune 23, 2023 to June 28 2023
UOB cardmembers PresaleJuly 5 2023 to July 7 2023
General on-saleJuly 7 2023 onwards

TicketMaster processes as MCC 7922 (Ticket Agencies). This merchant code is commonly considered Entertainment by most banks and credit card issuers. Also, since purchases are processed by TicketMaster online, we’ll assume that all purchases are local Singapore online purchases.

If you want to purchase your tickets after July 7th, you must register as a fan between June 23rd to June 28th 2023.

Also, each TicketMaster account can only purchase a maximum of 4 tickets. The exact prices of each seat category are not yet available as of the time of writing.

UOB Credit Cards for Taylor Swift’s Concert

UOB managed to snag an exclusive partnership with the organisers of Taylor Swift’s Era Concert where cardholders get an early pre-sale period to buy their tickets. This will happen from Wednesday, July 5th 12 PM (SGT) to Friday, July 7th 9 AM (SGT).

Given the frenzy we’ve seen recently with the Coldplay concert ticket releases, we can fully expect most tickets to be snagged up within minutes of the release. It’s also almost a guarantee that you’ll need to be part of the pre-sale to get a ticket to the concert.

Therefore, we’ll highly recommend only using your existing UOB cards to make the purchase or signing up for one as soon as possible before the pre-sale period.

UOB Lady’s Card / UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card

The UOB Lady’s Cards allow you to select specific spending categories to earn up to 6 mpd on your spending. One of the available categories is Entertainment which includes MCC 7922.

Depending on the variant of UOB Lady’s Card you have, you’ll get a different monthly bonus spending limit of S$1,000 or S$3,000. Given the prices of the tickets, it is highly possible that the limit will be exceeded, thereby reducing the total amount of miles earned.

This makes the UOB Lady’s Cards the undisputed best cards to use if you have selected the right category. Since the UOB pre-sale only starts on 5th July 2023, you’ll have plenty of time to change your selected category before the end of June.

The UOB Preferred Platinum Visa Card is one of the best credit cards to earn a lot of airline miles easily. It earns 4 mpd on almost all contactless purchases and several online purchase categories that include entertainment and online ticketing.

This makes the card a perfect candidate for your concert ticket purchases. However, do note that it only has a S$1,110 monthly bonus spending limit.

The UOB Preferred Platinum Visa Card has an annual income requirement of S$30,000 and an annual fee of S$192.60.

The UOB Visa Infinite Card recently went through a revamp which saw its benefits increase significantly. Although it has a high annual fee of S$648 (non-waivable), the travel benefits it confers make this a good card to have.

It currently offers a sign-up bonus of 80,000 air miles for new-to-bank customers or 40,000 air miles for existing UOB customers. Other Credit Cards

If by any chance there are still tickets available after the pre-sale (highly unlikely), there are other credit cards that are great for purchasing concert tickets through TicketMaster.

DBS Woman’s World Mastercard

The DBS Woman’s World Mastercard is one of our favourite credit cards as it earns 4 mpd for all online purchases. The card also has a bonus monthly spending limit of S$2,000 which should more than cover the total cost of the tickets.

Citi Rewards

The Citi Rewards Card is another one of our favourites when it comes to making online purchases. Although it earns 4 mpd, it has a lower bonus spending limit of S$1,000. It might be fine though if you’re just buying 1 or 2 tickets in the lower seat categories.

Summary

If you’re a huge Taylor Swift fan, you’d want to be swift and not miss out on her concert in the city.

Given the exclusive partnership with UOB, we’ll no doubt see a huge increase in UOB card applications over the next couple of weeks until the ticket presale. This might increase the wait time before card applications are processed. If you don’t yet have a UOB card, be sure to sign up as soon as possible.
